A strong Praga team is about to decent on KZN as they look to take honours in the final round of the 2019 South African Rok Cup. Idube will play host to the event, which promises to produce some of the best racing of the year.
Kid Rok
Praga are sitting pretty at the top of the Kid Rok point’s log, with Luke Hill the favourite to claim the championship. He has a massive 33 point lead and only needs one 6th place finish to take the title.
Goran Gruben is 5th in the championship, but a good set of results could get him into 3rd spot. Only 5 points separate 3rd and 5th, so it is still anyone’s game. Kid Rok has produced some good racing this season and this weekend will be no different.
Reagile Mailula has really created a name for himself of late and is likely to be a front runner. Although he is 10th in the point’s standings, he missed the Cape Town leg of the championship, so this dropped round will come into effect by the end of the weekend and he will likely shoot up the ranks.
Keagan Beaumont and Tyler Repsold will both be using the event to gain experience at another track and get more seat time in preparation for the 2020 season. Neither driver is in the championship charge, but will be racing for their passion for the sport.
Troy van der Laan switched from the Rotax series to the Rok series mid-season and will also be looking to prepare himself for next year.
Mini Rok
A very impressive Mini Rok field (arguably the strongest and most exciting field in SA karting at the moment) will take to the track.
KC Ensor-Smith will be hoping to get himself onto the podium both on track and in the championship. It is going to be quite a challenge, however, as KC will be up against 24 other competitors and has a 11 point deficit to close.
Luke Hill has an 8 point lead in the under 10 division and if all goes according to plan and his aspirations, he will walk away with two championship titles on Saturday.
Although not challenging for championship position, Ashton Repsold will be looking to further hone his race craft and find his kart’s limit at the iDube track.
Tyler Robinson will be making her Rok Cup debut on Saturday and if her results last weekend are anything to go by, she is definitely a driver to watch for the future.
OKJ
Jarrod Waberski will be going all out to set the record straight this weekend, after some bad luck has left him 8th in point’s standings. He is in top form and some exciting racing is likely to ensue.
Taya van der Laan is still finding her feet in the class and whilst she won’t want to interfere in the championship, she will be giving 100% to keep pace with the front runners.
